Road rehabilitation: Sanwo-Olu, Abiru pay ‘thank you’ visit to Minister of Works

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, and the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Sen. Tokunbo Abiru, have visited the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, to extend gratitude for the rapid progress on the rehabilitation of the 34-Km Ikorodu Itokin Road.

The Senator made the disclosure in a statement signed by his media aide, Enitan Olukotun.

Originally constructed in 1975 by Messr. Taylor Woodrow during the regime of General Yakubu Gowon and General Mobolaji Johnson, the road has been undergoing significant rehabilitation.

Recall that Senator Abiru had previously moved a motion in April 2021 in the Nigerian Senate, emphasizing the urgent need for the rehabilitation of the Ikorodu-Sagamu and Ikorodu-Itoikin-Epe roads to bolster infrastructure and economic growth.

During the visit, the duo stressed the vital role these roads play in connecting various parts of the country, including Ogun, Edo, and the Northern regions, as well as serving as routes to key economic zones like the New Lekki-Ibeju corridor.

The statement also revealed that, discussions also revolved around the potential dualization of the road, currently a single-carriageway, stating that the Minister assured that plans for dualization would commence soon, alongside ongoing reconstruction efforts.

Notably, the ongoing rehabilitation efforts have substantially improved travel experiences, reducing travel time from Itamaga to Itokin bridge from up to 2 hours to less than 30 minutes, as testified by motorists and residents.

The Governor and Senator expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his consistent support and dedication to the completion of road rehabilitation projects nationwide.
