UPDATED: FG begins investigation into bullying incident at Lead British School

The Federal Government has initiated an investigation into bullying among students at the Lead British International School in Abuja.

Folasade Boriowo, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Federal Ministry of Education, conveyed the government’s stance on the matter in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja.

In the statement, Boriowo underscored the Ministry’s deep concern regarding the incident, emphasizing the imperative of ensuring the safety and well-being of all students in educational institutions nationwide.

She emphasized that any form of bullying violates the fundamental rights and dignity of young learners, reflecting the government’s commitment to addressing such misconduct promptly and holding accountable those responsible.

The statement read in part: “The Federal Ministry of Education is aware of an online video detailing instances of bullying at Lead British International School.

“We view this incident with utmost gravity and express our dismay and profound concern for the safety of all students within our educational establishments.

“Bullying in any form contravenes the fundamental rights and dignity of our young learners.

“Accordingly, the Ministry has initiated an investigation into the matter and will work closely with pertinent stakeholders to ensure that culprits are brought to book to stop such unwholesome practices.”

The Federal Ministry of Education further emphasized its determination to monitor and address negative practices within schools rigorously.

The statement also enjoined individuals to report any instances of violence or intimidation, as part of the broader effort to uphold the safety and dignity of students across educational institutions in the country.
