With a litre of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) now selling for between N750 and N800 within the Ilorin metropolis, residents are complaining about the resultant increase in the cost of transportation.

Residents who spoke to WESTERN POST, lamented the hardship caused by the scarcity of petroleum products, particularly premium motor spirit, which has led to the hike in transportation, as they plead with the government to address the situation urgently before it gets out of control.

Speaking with WESTERN POST correspondent, a commuter, Mrs Modupe Yusuf, complained about the hike in the transportation fare from N150 to N400 as a trip that would previously cost N150, is now N400, an increase of over 100 per cent. Motorists, however attribute the development to the unavailability of petrol

Similarly, a motorcyclist, Mr Tobi Okunola said he had to park his motorcycle as he could not obtain fuel even as the price has increased. He called on concerned authorities to help alleviate the sufferings people are currently experiencing as many rely on daily income to fend for their family.

WESTERN POST reports that most roads in the Ilorin metropolis remain deserted as many motorists and commercial transport operators are unable to purchase fuel with all filling stations along Olorunsogo and Asadam areas under lock from the beginning of the week.
